A man was arrested and faced multiple charges after attacking a checkout employee at a Walmart in Stuart, Florida, on October 2, police said.

The Stuart Police Department said Peter McGuaghran of Wilmington, Delaware, was checking out just after 5.30 pm when he walked around the bagging area, pushed the cashier against a counter, and “began to choke her without provocation.”

Other staff tried to detain the suspect, and when officers arrived McGuaghran tried to kick and head-butt them, police said.

The cashier sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Police said McGuaghran was arrested and charged with “battery, resisting arrest without violence, assault on a law enforcement officer, and battery on a law enforcement officer.”
