SANTA FE, N.M. (WKRC) — Gene Hackman's family has reportedly blocked the autopsy results for both the legendary actor and his wife.
An insider familiar with the death investigation spoke exclusively with The U.S. Sun, telling the publication that Hackman's family is seeking to block autopsy reports, photos and investigation details regarding the legendary actor and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa.
The insider told the publication that the move by Hackman's family was "highly unusual," explaining that "trying to block the autopsy report is very atypical, that is not something I have ever seen before."
According to The U.S. Sun, the insider said that New Mexico doesn't have an exemption for autopsy photos and that the family of celebrities often use the New Mexico courts "to block the release of photos specifically," but added that moving to block the autopsy report itself "again, is highly unusual."
“As with the Hackmans, Michael Jackson’s family blocked Tito Jackson’s autopsy photos, and with the Alec Baldwin shooting of Halyna Hutchins, her family did the same," the insider explained to the publication.
According toThe New York Post, a temporary restraining order was filed by Hackman's family to block authorities in New Mexico from releasing any videos and images taken during the death investigation pending a hearing that will occur later this month.
Hackman, Arakawa and one of the couple's three dogs were found dead in their home in Santa Fe on Feb. 26, which began a weeks-long investigation.
Authorities revealed that the two-time Oscar winner died from heart complications at the age of 95 years old, while Arakawa died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome at the age of 65.
