Animals munched on heart-shaped treats to celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Brookfield Zoo in Illinois on February 14.
This footage shows animals chomping on their Valentine’s Day snacks at the zoo, located in the Chicago suburb of Brookfield. The treats were a fun way to stimulate the animals both physically and mentally, the zoo said.
“One way [to stimulate the animals] is by providing them with a variety of different enrichment and food items they normally do not receive on a regular basis,” the zoo said in a press release.
The zoo said it fed heart-shaped treats made of biscuit and gelatin to the western lowland gorillas and southern hairy-nosed wombats. Galapagos and Sulcata tortoises enjoyed heart-shaped watermelon pieces, while the gray seals and California sea lion munched on Valentine’s Day gelatin snacks.
