AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) - The internet of snacks is alight with the possibility that Doritos is working on a chip for women that doesn't crunch.
Indra Nooyi, the CEO of PepsiCo, said on WNYC’s "Freakonomics" podcast last week that Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of the soda company, would release a “low-crunch,” female-friendly version of the tortilla chip.
The reason? She claims women would prefer to eat politely in public.
When eating Doritos, men -- according to Nooyi -- “lick their fingers with great glee” and "when they reach the bottom of the bag, they pour the little, broken pieces into their mouth, because they don’t want to lose that taste of the flavor, and the broken chips in the bottom.”
Nooyi adds that women "don't like to crunch too loudly in public."
The news wasn't well received on Twitter, with many users calling the idea sexist.
The company refutes the claim, though. Doritos stated on Twitter that it already has Doritos for women, and they're called Doritos.
