Georgia Marine Science Center hatches peppercorn-sized horseshoe crabs

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTGS) — A marine science center in Georgia saw some out-of-the-ordinary horseshoe crabs hatch from their eggs on Tuesday.

The Tybee Island Marine Science Center said the green horseshoe crabs hatched from 'peppercorn-sized' eggs.

Did you know the horseshoe crabs have been in the fossil record for 445 million years? They spawn on the beach in the late spring/early summer laying around 4,000 eggs in the sand! These interesting little creatures have 10 eyes and are more closely related to scorpions and spiders than crabs," the science center wrote on Facebook.

The science center said they have 11 young horseshoe crabs on display.
