MURFREESBORO, Ark. (TND) — A 7-year-old girl recently discovered a 2.95-carat golden brown diamond while visitingCrater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas.
According to a news release from Arkansas State Parks,Aspen Brown visited with her family on Sept. 1. Her father Luther Brown said she started feeling hot while exploring the diamond search area and went to sit down, and that's when she spotted the jewel.
A contracted company dug a 150-yard trench in August to help manage erosion on the north side of the search area,” saidpark superintendent Caleb Howell. “Several tons of unsearched diamond-bearing material were exposed and it’s very possible that this diamond and others were uncovered as a result.
Park officials say Brown's diamond is the second-largest found by a guest so far this year, beaten only by a3.29-carat brown diamond found in March.
The little girl decided to name her jewel the "Aspen Diamond" and got to take it home with her.
“There was no skill required for her to find it. She was just in the right place at the right time," Luther Brown said.
