HILTON HEAD, S.C. (WSET) - Charters off Hilton Head in South Carolina said since the waters are warming up, they're spotting more sharks, even some of the rarest.

This week, WSAV reported that one charter had caught a 3,000-pound, 16-foot great white shark.

First, the owner of the charter said a 10-foot great white had passed and he tried to hook it, but it got away.

He said he was just about to give up when a 16-foot great white shark showed up.

"A 3,000-pound animal is massive. People don’t realize just one wag of the tail can pool a 26-foot boat at that kind of clip," he said. "After we started fighting this thing, we kind of realized that it was just too much."

So, he called for backup.

The team was able to get the shark to the side of the boat, tag her, and then send her on her way.
