NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Metro Nashville Police responded to a violent attack involving two victims at a storage facility Sunday.
A homeless suspect is in custody after a husband and wife were seriously injured in the stabbing involving a machete on Sunday afternoon at Public Storage facility, according to Metro Nashville Police.
Officers arrived on scene and applied tourniquets to the victims before paramedics arrived.
Both victims went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police identify the man taken into custody as 35-year-old Kelvin Edwards. He will be booked into the Davidson County Jail shortly and charged with two counts of attempted murder.
Police say Edwards retrieved a machete from a bin in his unit and randomly attacked the couple due to COVID-19 shutdowns, including not being able to get into the Rescue Mission. Following the attack, he threw the machete down and stood in the street with his hands raised as officers arrived.
Edwards, who has been in Nashville since 2016, has had run-ins with the law previously, according to court records. He was carrying an Arkansas driver's license with a Little Rock address.
