CINCINNATI (WKRC) — It’s one of the biggest celebrations of the year, but if Americans aren't careful, infection protection specialists say this year’s Super Bowl could be a super spreader event.

Public health experts aren’t as worried about those who are in the stadium for the big game as the rest of us who are celebrating outside of it.

“It’s so hard because you want to get together with your family,” said Suzi Francis, manager of ambulatory pharmacy at St. Elizabeth Healthcare. “You want to get back to normal, but you have to just really remember to practice social distancing and all the precautions the CDC has put forth.”

Until more of us are vaccinated, instead of traditional get-togethers, many of us are turning this year to healthy "homegating."

“This is a cream cheese, Greek yogurt, garlic, salt, onion, and a little bit of salt and pepper blended together,” said Samantha Bergman, Business Development for 80 acres farms.

Samantha Bergman works in business development for 80 Acres Farms. She is part of a “growing” number of people who showed us that instead of traditional chicken wings and higher-fat game foods, the recipe for good health really is right at your fingertips.

“A lot of people think that this is something you only do in the summer,” said Bergman. “Well, that’s because, oftentimes, these products are seasonal while we grow year round.”

Her suggestions:

  • Caprese Bites
  • Tomato & Basil Tart
  • Cucumber Hummus Bites
  • Salad Wrap

Here are the recipes for these homegating dishes.
