AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — With just two weeks left to enter the race, Matthew McConaughey officially announced he is not running for governor in 2022.

In a video posted to Twitter, McConaughey says he considered a run for governor, but ultimately decided to invest his time into entrepreneurs, businesses and foundations he believes are leaders in the Texas community.

"It never occurred to me that I would one day be considered for political leadership," says McConaughey. "It's a humbling and inspiring path to ponder. It's also a path that I am choosing not to take at this moment."
