SANTA CLARA, Calif. (WKRC) — A former HGTV star received a sentence of up to four years in jail.
Charles 'Todd' Hill, 58, was the star of 'Flip It To Win It' TV show.
Hill spent millions on overbudget remodels, laundered profits and pocketed millions in fraudulently obtained money, according to a news release from the County of Santa Clara.
“Some see the huge amount of money in Silicon Valley real estate as a business opportunity,” said Jeff Rosen, the district attorney. “Others, unfortunately, see it as a criminal opportunity, and we will hold those people strictly accountable.”
He had also been convicted in 2023 of multiple fraud schemes. Some had taken place before the TV show.
Victims who spoke at his hearing on April 16, said they were still suffering financial and professional damages from the fraud.
Hill's frauds against multiple people include diverting construction money for personal use and created a Ponzi scheme that took investor's money to buy homes for himself to live "lavishly."
He had created false balance sheets and got loans using fraudulent information to hide his crimes.
