Counting Crows’ singer recalls dating 'Friends' stars Jennifer Aniston & Courteney Cox
A new documentary about Counting Crows was released with some surprising details about the iconic 90s band.
One of the most surprising is lead singer Adam Duritz opening up about dating both “Friends” stars Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox (at different times).
He first dated Aniston briefly in 1995, claiming mutual friends set them up.
“When I met Jennifer Aniston, my friends lied to me and her friends lied to her. They told us we both were really into each other,” he said, per Us Weekly.
He said he didn’t know “anything” about Aniston’s work on “Friends” saying he was “busy during prime time” and not able to keep up with TV.
But when she dropped by to see him play, he was into it. “When we were getting ready to record, we would do these shows at the Viper Room and we would test out the material, and Jen came to the show and she’s cool.”
Duritz also recalled his feeling about her at the time, saying, “She’s smart, she’s really funny, she’s beautiful and she likes me, apparently.”
His bandmates noted in the documentary that Duritz has a tendency to fall in love “very quickly,” and they’ve only seen him “deeply in love maybe four of five times.”
According to Duritz, his longest relationship was with Aniston’s “Friends” co-star Courteney Cox, who he began dating in 1996 after she appeared in the band’s music video for their song “A Long December.”
“Courteney was probably my longest relationship, but I don’t know whether we were really together for a lot of it,” he remembered. “We were very, very different people. And there were moments that were absolutely wonderful together and there were moments where it was really hard. We just weren’t on the same wavelength.”
Duritz also dated actress Mary-Louise Parker in the 90s, and reportedly briefly dated Emmy Rossum between 2009 and 2010.
“Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?” is streaming now on HBO Max.
