WASHINGTON (SBG) — A little boy in Wyoming has gained national attention and praise from the Avengers for his courageous actions.
Bridger Walker, 6, is being hailed a hero by celebrities for saving his little sister from a dog attack.
On July 9, Bridger's family said he shielded his sister from a 1-year-old German shepherd mix charging at them.
"Tragically, instead of running off, the dog leaped and latched onto Bridger's cheek," a family statement obtained by CNN reads in part.
Bridger was brutally attacked and his injuries required more than 90 stitches and two hours on the operating table.
When his father asked Bridger why he jumped in between his sister and the dog, he is said to have told them, "if someone had to die, I thought it should be me."
Bridger's aunt, Nikki Walker, posted her nephew's story on Instagram and shared he is an Avengers fan. It quickly garnered social media notoriety. Anne Hathaway was among the first to praise Bridger for his actions.
"I’m not an Avenger, but I know a superhero when I see one," Hathaway's Instagram post reads. "I can only hope I’m half as brave in my life as you are in yours, Bridger. Wishing you an easeful recovery, and many cool looking rocks."
Hathaway then tagged Mark Ruffalo, known as "The Hulk" in the movie franchise, and asked if he needed a teammate.
Since then, the Walker family says other celebrities have reached out to them privately — including Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Hugh Jackman, Zachary Levi, the Russo Brothers and Robbie Amell.
