OMAHA, Neb. (KPTM) — We are witnessing history is in the making at Millard South.
Fox 42's Bill Steckis reports a home-winning streak for the girls’ basketball team is fueling the number one team in the state.
Quite a story unfolding here at Millard South for the girls’ basketball team.
They have a home-winning streak of fifty-eight games.
Every player on the team doesn't know what it's like to lose a home game.
Seven seniors are leading the patriots to great success.
“We've all played together for quite a few years. It's that team chemistry we all bring, picking up the freshmen and it's pretty cool how we all come together as a team," said Cora Olsen.
“Every year is different, but this is a very talented group. This senior group is very special,” said Bryce Meyers
“The connections we have is great. We have grown up together and it's fun to play with your friends," said Mya Babbitt.
The streak has been alive through three presidents.
It's been around since 2015 and the girls say they pump it up a little when they are playing on this floor.
“When we play at home we have a little something more. We know it's something special for us seniors. We want to keep it alive and keep it for the future," said Olsen.
“It makes it more special playing at home. You come out with more fire in you knowing it's there," said Babbitt.
The streak will be put on the line on Friday. That's their next home game. It's against Marion.
They have gone to the state tournament the last seven years but have not won a state championship since 1996.
They hope the streak and the success will help them when the state tournament comes around in March.
Friday is the girl's final regular season home game. They are guaranteed a district home game the following week.
