Protesters brought traffic to a standstill around Michigan’s State Capitol building in Lansing on April 15 as part of a demonstration calling for an end to the stay-at-order issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The vehicle rally, organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition, was dubbed Operation Gridlock and saw dozens of vehicles come to a halt in downtown Lansing and blare their horns in opposition of Whitmer’s order.

Ramon Beaulieu attended the rally and recorded this clip showing a convoy of vehicles participating the rally, as well as signs which read: “We can work safe, we can shop safe” and “Ditch the Whit,” a reference to the governor.

Gov. Whitemer extended the state’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order on April 9. The ruling “limits gatherings and travel and requires all workers who are not necessary to sustain or protect life to stay home.”

As of April 15, there was 27,001 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan, and 1,768 deaths, according to the state’s Department of Health and Human Services.
