Time-lapse shows line to vote in Wisconsin primary winding through Milwaukee neighborhood

Long lines formed outside Wisconsin polling stations throughout the day April 7 as voters waited to cast their ballots in the Democratic presidential primary amid the coronavirus pandemic, local media reported.

Hundreds of voters, many wearing masks, stood outside in lines, maintaining a distance of several feet from one another.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers tried to suspend Tuesday’s presidential primary and reschedule for June due to the coronavirus, but the state's Supreme Court ruled it must go ahead as planned.

The U.S. Supreme Court also reversed a lower court ruling that had given voters six additional days to return absentee ballots, ruling that only those postmarked by Tuesday and arriving by April 13 should be counted.

In this time-lapse video from local filmmaker Chelsea Merrow, taken around 12.30 p.m. local time, a line to vote at Riverside High School can be seen winding through a Milwaukee neighborhood.

Merrow said, “It took me ten full minutes to walk from the end to the front and I walked fast. This is an absolute shame to democracy, making people choose between their lives and voting.”
