NEW YORK (SBG) - Violence broke out during protests across parts of New York City, leaving at least four officers including the chief of police injured.
It all happened as "Defund the Police" protesters clashed with pro-police protesters in lower Manhattan Wednesday afternoon.
Three of the officers suffered injuries to their heads and hands after being hit with canes, bats and debris.
Chief Terry Monahan, who had been marching with the pro-police clergy group, was bloodied but not seriously hurt.
Officials say over a dozen people are in custody with charges including disorderly conduct pending.
This all happened during the same time a "Stop the Violence" march was moving across the Brooklyn Bridge.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will be signing a package of police reform bills including the anti-chokehold bill later Wednesday.
