NYPD applauds visiting health care workers beginning final shift

NEW YORK (STORYFUL) — Officers with the New York Police Department lined a sidewalk in midtown Manhattan on April 22 to applaud health care workers who left their own states to assist New York City in the fight against COVID-19. Many were taking their final shift.

Video shared by the NYPD showed officers paying tribute to doctors and nurses as they left their hotel on 7th Avenue to head for local hospitals.

Some health care workers bowed their heads to thank the NYPD in return.

According to reports, the medics arrived in New York City weeks ago as the city grappled with the crisis.

A reporter on the ground said some of them were about to work their last shift in New York on April 22 before returning home. Others volunteered to extend their stay.

As of April 22, more than 14,800 people had died from the virus in New York City.
