BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Police have identified the victim of the brick assault from Sunday and have been in contact with him.

According to police, he suffered minor injuries and did not seek medical attention.

The Baltimore Police Department is still searching for the suspect in the brick assault that was captured on video and has since gone viral. Police also believe the victim and suspect of the assault knew each other.

Baltimore City Councilman Eric Costello, who represents the district where this happened in south Baltimore, posted the video to his Facebook page. The video shows a man running up behind another man and striking him in the head with a brick. The man falls to the ground and a third person recording the video begins laughing. The suspect leaves the scene.

"It’s disgusting. It’s gross. It could have been attempted murder," said Eric Costello.

Costello told FOX45 more than a dozen of his constituents have since reported potential information about the case, and he's relayed that information to investigators.

BPD confirmedpolice responded to West Hamburg and Leadenhall streets, outside Baltimore's Federal Hill neighborhood, just after 6:30 p.m Sunday, after a witness called 911 and reported a man was struck in the back of the head by another man, armed with two bricks. When police arrived at the scene, there was a pool of blood on the sidewalk but no victim, according to a police report. Police also reported the witness told investigators they heard the victim and suspect arguing prior to the assault.

"It just goes to show the times we are in," said Detective Donnie Moses, with BPD. "But more importantly we need our victim in this case to let us know who he is. We feel like they know each other and we need this guy off the streets. If you could do this to someone, who else has he assaulted? Who else has he ambushed basically? He needs to be arrested."

A motive in the case remains unclear.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect, victim or person who recorded the video is asked to call police.
