The staff at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, England, applauded their first COVID-19 patient’s successful recovery as he was discharged on April 9.

Footage posted to the Kent hospital’s Facebook page shows the patient, Biniam, walking out of the ward with the help of a cane as healthcare workers line the hall and clap.

The hospital’s first patient to test positive for COVID-19, Biniam was admitted to the hospital on March 22, the hospital said in a post. As his condition deteriorated, he was moved to intensive care and spent 12 days on a ventilator. He was transferred out of intensive care on April 7, leaving the hospital on April 9.

Darent Valley Hospital posted on its Facebook page: “We wish him a speedy recovery and well done to all the staff involved in his care and all of our other patients.”
