Officials honored Brutus during a memorial service at the Cumberland County law enforcement memorial.
"He was big dog, intimidating looking even the first time I met him back in 2011 but very very social he loved cuddling with people in and getting pets so for a patrol trained dog, an explosive trained dog he was very friendly and anybody," Sergeant Harold Weary, K9 handler at the US Army War College Carlisle Barracks Police Dept.
Brutus spent 8-years serving alongside Sergeant Harold Weary. During his career, K-9 Brutus put in over 10,000 search hours, searched 17,926 vehicles and found 61 weapons over 1,900 explosive training aids.
K-9 Brutus was diagnosed with cancer in mid-July and due to the pain Brutus was enduring, the decision was made to humanely euthanize Brutus on July 16th.
