SAN ANTONIO - Bexar County deputy Noah Calderon, 20, was killed days ago with his 21-year-old fiancee Samantha Handy in an accident on their way to Corpus Christi.

Calderon's younger brother, 13-year-old Luke Calderon was also severely injured in the accident.

Friday, the sheriff's office escorted Noah's body back home to San Antonio from San Patricio County. Firefighters also paid tribute, using their fire trucks to hold up the American flag over a bridge where the procession was passing through.

The procession ended at Porter Loring Mortuaries on McCullough, where Noah's uncle spoke with us about the young couple's trip.

"They went everywhere together," Keith Serenil said. "Obviously they were headed to Corpus. He loved fishing. My nephew loved fishing. That's one of the things he wanted to do on this trip and unfortunately he was unable to do that."

Noah's uncle said the family lost a grandfather back in December.

Sheriff Javier Salazar was also in attendance.

"It's the least we can do on behalf of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office," Sheriff Salazar said. "When we do have the funeral, which of course is in eventuality, we will be there and we will be there in full force."

Luke was in surgery Friday. The family said, though they miss Noah, they're glad they had the time with him they did.

"We're so happy and grateful that he had 20 years of life that we were able to experience that with him," Serenil said.
