The California National Guard flew 500 ventilators to New York, New Jersey, and other states grievously affected by the coronavirus pandemic on April 7, local media reported.

The move was a cooperative effort between California Emergency Medical Services Authority, California National Guard, California State Guard, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), and other agencies.

The ventilators were boxed and trucked to Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, where the California Air National Guard transported them to New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia, and Nevada.

Gavin Newsom, governor of California, said the state was “practicing our duty as Americans to take care of one another. I know other states would do the same.”
