SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WKEF) — Every single student and staff member at an elementary school in Illinois lined the halls Thursday to celebrate a kindergartner who is now cancer-free.
In 2020, AerynMiller was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
On Friday, December 9, she was scheduled to head to the hospital where she was treated to officially ring the bell and celebrate the end of her treatment. However, her family at Kenwood Elementary School in Springfield wanted to celebrate her first with a "clap-out" of their own at dismissal time.
Nearly all of the students were wearing orange in honor of the type of cancer Aeryn was diagnosed with, and ultimately beat. Every student at the school also signed a banner for Aeryn to take home with her.
We are so elated for Aeryn, her family and this huge milestone!" the Springfield City School District wrote in a new release.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood, according to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If left untreated, the condition, which has no clear cause, can progress rapidly.
