SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — With the holiday season in full swing, some might mistaken the deer being flown over Utah as part of Santa's team.
However, officials with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said it is part of an annual effort to help monitor and learn about deer migration patterns.

They said biologists capture and place GPS collars on approximately 1,200 deer throughout the state every winter.
The deer are then brought to an area where health assessments are performed before they are safely released.
