daylight saving timepoliticsNASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) - Is it time for a change? One Tennessee lawmaker thinks so -- and is taking steps to do just that.
Rep. Rick Tillis, R-Lewisburg, is re-filing a bill on Thursday that would keep Tennessee on Daylight Saving Time year-round.
Tillis said if passed into law, the change would go into effect in May 2019. So, there would be one more "fall back" before Tennessee would officially "spring forward" -- and stay there.
Tillis said he's had overwhelming support from his constituents and the public, with rates of roughly 90 percent and 80 percent approving the idea, respectively. Tillis told FOX 17 News he's been in talks with lawmakers in border states, urging them to follow suit. He said several lawmakers have filed or are planning on filing similar legislation.
Tillis said the reasons why Daylight Saving Time was first introduced are now outdated.
