DAYTON, Ohio (WRGT) – A routine traffic stop ended with an Ohio man arrested for possession of illegal drugs.

William Knight III was reportedly turning onto Salem Avenue on Friday when he failed to signal, prompting an officer to pull him over.

The officer ran Knight’s identification and discovered he was on federal probation and had an extensive drug and gun history.

Calling for backup, the officer then asked Knight to step out of his car multiple times. When he did not comply, the officer went to open the car door, but Knight sped off. He drove back a moment later, when officers ordered him out of the vehicle and detained him.

Police used surveillance video from the Walgreens where the traffic stop occurred to track the path Knight had taken. Along that route, they found crack cocaine and a scale they believe were thrown from his car.

When they searched Knight, officers recovered more bags of cocaine, along with approximately $1,000 in cash.

Knight is also facing charges of failure to comply with officers.
