Subway adds new 'footlong dessert' to permanent menu, soon to be nationwide

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - For years Subway has been famous for its footlong sandwiches, but now the company plans to add a "footlong cookie" to its menu.

The company recently announced that it will add a 12-inch cookie to its menus nationwide starting in early 2024.

"The overwhelming response we received from fans around the country last year let us know that we needed to make the footlong cookie a permanent addition to our menu," said Paul Fabre, Senior Vice President, Culinary and Innovation at Subway. "At Cookieway this year, our guests will get a sneak peek of an even better footlong cookie: thick, gooey, packed with chocolate chips and served warm right out of the oven. It's the perfect pairing with your favorite footlong sub and may even become your favorite footlong after the first bite."

December 4 is National Cookie Day and to celebrate customers in select cities will be able to get a free footlong cookie with the purchase of any footlong sub.

The four cities this deal will be available at are:

• Chicago
• Dallas
• Miami
• New York

Although it has never been a permanent menu item in the past, this isn't the first time the footlong cookie has appeared on menus. It originally made its debut back on National Cookie Day in 2022 at a special pop-up held in Miami.

This isn't the first big announcement Subway has made in 2023 either, a couple months ago Subway announced a "Subway in the Sky" dining experience. Those who go on this experience will board a 180-feet-long blimp that has a restaurant underneath it for six people to eat. It was called the "flying footlong" and it toured several cities offering the experience.

According to a press release from Subway, the sub chain sells more freshly baked cookies than any other restaurant company in the United States.
