Slithering surprise: SC troopers remove snake from woman's car

(WPDE) — Two South Carolina troopers made a woman's day after removing a snake that was slithering around in her car.

Mary Alice Simmons was driving on Interstate 20 in Kershaw County when she looked down and saw a snake creeping along the floorboard of the passenger seat. Trying not to panic, Simmons pulled over onto the shoulder and called 911.

Sergeant Jonathan Oxandaboure of the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Senior Trooper Bruce Horton responded to the call. When the officers arrived, the snake was on the dashboard.

“She was having a rough day, that’s for sure,” Oxandaboure said. “I felt bad for the lady because she wanted to burn the car.”

Oxandaboure then opened the door and grabbed the snake behind the head and the tail without hesitation.

Simmons said Oxandaboure must be a county boy because “He reached in there, grabbed that snake, and pulled him right out like it was a cute little kitten.”

The trooper said this wasn't his first snake call. He added that he's corralled about half a dozen or so.

After the snake incident, Simmons decided to trade in her car for a newer model later that same day and thanked both officers for responding and having such positive attitudes.
