ABILENE, Texas (KTXS) — The sign was supposed to read "No Democrats Allowed," but the spelling was a little off. Instead, it reads "No Democrates allowed."

Seventy-seven-year-old Gary Rutledge owns R&R Appliances on the corner of Walnut and N 10th streets in Abilene, Texas.

"I don't want to put up with them," said Rutledge.

On Monday, the sign started trending on Twitter. George Conway, husband of Kellyanne Conway and a critic of President Donald Trump, retweeted the photo.

"A box of Democrats?" said Conway.

At one point, the tweet was at No. 4 on the top trending list. Rutledge didn't know he was trending. But his phone was ringing off the hook.

"I have the right to freedom of speech, I've given fair warning. Don't come in my store," said Rutledge.

He believes that the left stole the election and they are trying to make America a socialist country.

"I don't hate Democrats, I just don't want to be around them, don't want anything to do with them," said Rutledge.

He said he refuses to take the sign down, but he might correct the spelling.
