DURHAM, N.C . (WKRC) - Some kids brought home more than just homework on their first day of school.

WRAL reported that the principal of Riverside High School, Gloria Woods, sent an email to the district warning of possible bedbugs in student Chromebooks. She said the bugs had been found in other Chromebooks that were kept in the school's media center over the summer.

Unfortunately for families, students have had their Chromebooks since freshman orientation on August 26. Now, school officials urge students to return the laptops and for families to check their homes for bedbugs.

Terminix's website warns that although bedbugs prefer to hide in spaces near humans, they will sometimes slip into small cracks like vents and ports on electronics.

Riverside faced multiple other issues at the beginning of this school year, including unrest among staff members regarding pay and older air conditioning systems struggling to beat the summer heat.
