Rescued jawless alligator finds new home at Florida wildlife preserve

ORLANDO, Fla. (WEAR) — An alligator missing the top half of its jaw now gets to call a rescue in Florida her forever home.

Gatorland is a 110-acre theme park and wildlife preserve in Florida that rescues alligators. There, gators can live out their lives in the park's giant lakes.

The "Alligator Paradise," based in Orlando, received the female gator Friday after it was spotted a few weeks ago in a lake near Sanford, Florida.

Friday, the park shared a video on social media welcoming the rescued gator to her new home. They also shared the extent of the gator's injury.

In the video, park officials say the gator most likely lost her upper jaw from another gator fight, or possibly from a boat propeller. They said she had no chance of surviving by herself in the wild with that type of injury.

The park says Gatorland team members are dedicated to giving their newest residents lots of loving care. They've even asked the public on social media to help come up with an official name for the gator.
