MOUNDS, Okla. (KTUL) — Tulsa police have located a rare, very expensive 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 that was stolen.
Police Lt. Chase Calhoun said the car, valued at around $200,000, was found in a very rural area in Mounds, south of Tulsa.
He said the car’s engine appears intact, but the doors, fenders and hood had been removed. Calhoun said a stolen dump truck and sedan were also found in the field, which he said appears to be a kind of dumping ground for stolen vehicles.
One man was arrested, and arrest warrants were issued to two others. Calhoun said he anticipated as many as four or five people could ultimately be arrested in connection with this investigation.
The suspect already in custody is 20-year-old Nicholas Chamberlin. The police lieutenant said Chamberlin worked for a moving company the car’s owner had hired, but none of the suspects have any other known connection to the owner.
NOTE: The police lieutenant on scene said the car was a 1968, but the court affidavit says the car is a 1967.
The Shelby was stored in a locked warehouse, Calhoun said.
Calhoun said they’re still looking into the motive, but he speculated the suspects planned to sell the car or sell off the car’s parts.
