BRUNSWICK, Maine (WGME) — Authorities said they safely captured and released a beaver that was roaming around the streets in Maine.
The Brunswick Police Department said the beaver, named "Chuck," was spotted by multiple residents on Friday night and "detained" the next day.
Should anyone be missing a cord of wood along the Maine St. Brunswick area, we have identified a suspect," the department noted in a Facebook post. "The Brunswick Communications Center received several calls about a large furry creature making its way down Maine St. in the late Friday night hours."
Police shared a few photos of the animal and said the 40 pound North American beaver "was reluctant to identify himself to law enforcement but eventually gave up his name."
Chuck was later released into the water, according to authorities.
"After some questioning, Chuck was placed into custody and transported to the Anniversary Park where he was released to the water ways," police said.
