Pictured Rocks quarter to be released next month

MICHIGAN (WPBN/WGTU) -- A quarter honoring the PicturedRocks National Lakeshore could soon be in your pocket.

The United States Mint is hosting an event in Munising to launch the "America the Beautiful" Quarter Program.

The quarter will launch on February 7.

National and State officials will be at the ceremony at Mather Elementary School at 10 a.m. to honor the area and the new quarter.

The designer of the quarter, Paul Balan, will also be at the event.

The Pictured Rock quarter is the 41st quarter released in the American the Beautiful Program.

This is a 12-year program that honors 56 National Parks and Lakeshores.

Each new quarter is released in the order the national sites were established.

The U.S. Mint will also hold a coin forum at 6 p.m.on February 6 at the Munising Township hall to teach the public about coin programs.
