MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) - Internet users have started a petition to name April the giraffe's new calf after the viral Myrtle Beach giraffe mom's baby boy.
Back in March, Erin Dietrich, of Myrtle Beach, donned a giraffe head mask and started a Facebook Live video stream of herself mimicking April in labor, pacing in her bedroom.
The video quickly went viral, hitting almost 30 million views overnight.
At that time,April was expected to give birth any day, and so was Dietrich.
On March 8, Dietrich posted another video, only this time it was from a hospital room.
Only hours later, Dietrichoutpaced April, giving birth to a healthy baby boy named Porter.
After April finally gave birth to a healthy calf on livestream on Saturday, April 15, viewers everywhere were left to wonder what the baby would be named.
Now, an online petition has been started onchange.org to have the newborn calf named after the one-month-old boy.
As of April 17 at 8:15 p.m., the petition has 208 supporters.
