Owner of mini market that sold winning $1B Powerball ticket taking family on vacation

LOS ANGELES (TND) — The owner of the California mini market who sold the winning $1.08 billion Powerball ticket says he's treating his family to a vacation using his earnings.

The jackpot ticket was sold at the Las Palmitas Mini Market in downtown Los Angeles, owned byNavor Herrera.Herrera, a father of four, has owned the market for the past seven or eight years, according to Fox 9.

Under Powerball rules in California, the retailer that sells the winning ticket gets a 0.5% share of the jackpot, and the reward is capped at $1 million.

Herrera told Fox 9 on Thursday that he plans to take a vacation with his family. Lottery officials presented the owner with a symbolic checkduring a news conference andhung signs around the market saying "billionaire made here."

I have to make more bigger store, more items, good service for the people. That's my thing now," he said in an interview with the Associated Press when asked about his future endeavors.

The winner has not yet come forward butHerrera believes the individual is local to the downtown LA area. That person has the choice between $1.08 billion paid out in yearly increments or a $558.1 million lump sum before taxes. The prize money is the sixth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever won.

April 19 was the last time someone won the Powerball jackpot, netting nearly $253 million.
