PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Oregon Zoo welcomed a new addition to the Humboldt penguin family.
A new penguin chick emerged from its shell last week, the zoo said.
“The little beak came out first,” said Marcus Jason. “Everything went well wit the hatching, and the chick’s parents are doing a great job caring for it in their nest.”
Zoo officials say the penguin began breaking through the membrane of the shell on March 2 and emerged early on Monday, March 4.
Humboldt Penguins typically hatch 40 days after eggs are laid.
