Oregon woman uses 'tomato sauce can' as weapon against husband, court docs show

LAKESIDE, Ore. – A woman was booked on domestic assault charges Friday after deputies say she “used a can of tomato sauce as a weapon” and beat up her husband, court documents show.

Katherine Lavigne, 53, of Lakeside could also face additional meth possession charges, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called out Friday evening on reports of an assault that had happened early that morning at a home on N 3rd Street.

They learned that Lavigne and her husband got into a fight about 3 a.m. when he asked “where she had been,” a probable cause document states.

Based on evidence at the scene and other witnesses who were home at the time, investigators said they believe Lavigne threw canned goods at her husband and at one point punched him in the head.

While placing Lavigne under arrest for the Assault II (domestic) charge, she asked to put something back inside the home. Deputies say they saw her hiding what appeared to be a baggie of meth in one of her hands.

She was booked into the Coos County Jail on $250,000 bail and her case will be sent over to the District Attorney’s office for an additional charge of unlawful possession of meth.
