Ontario, N.Y. (WHAM) - An Ontario man says he will be taking care of his family with the winnings from a $5 million lottery prize.
Raymond Shove said he was finishing up a long work week at his construction job and decided to stop for a cup of coffee on his way home. The first store he spotted wouldn’t make him a cup of coffee, so he stopped at the Fastrac on Rt. 104. near Knickerbocker Rd. After buying his coffee and a lottery ticket, he went home for the night.
Shove said he went downstairs to his basement, scratched off the $5Million Fortune Lottery ticket and was surprised at the result.
"I’ve played this game for a while, but I was pretty shocked when I realized I won the jackpot," Shove said. "I was looking for the gag.”
Shove said he then calmly put his ticket away and went to bed. “I didn’t even tell my wife. I slid it under some newspapers and went to sleep.”
The prize will be a one-time lump sum payment worth $3,309,000 after required withholdings.
“I’ve never had this kind of money, so I’ll probably invest most of it. Take care of the family and plan for the future,” said Shove.
Shove is the 7th person so far this year to win at least $1 million while playing a New York Lottery game.
