It almost sounds like “Mary Had a Little Lamb” but a school in Massachusetts had an unusual visitor before class started on Monday.

A moose showed up just as parents were dropping their children off at Naquag Elementary in Rutland. (Would you drop off your little one with a moose so close?)

Special education aide Christine Riggieri was pretty brave. She managed to capture the moose on her lens. Notice it’s closer to the school’s entrance than the cars.

We don’t know if the moose was dropping anybody off or if it wanted to learn something. Perhaps it followed Mary to school that day.

As quickly as the moose arrived, police said it departed — maybe because it was against the rule.

State officials warn, “Never try to approach or pursue a moose. Pursuit not only stresses the animal, but it adds the risk of having a moose chased out into traffic or into a group of bystanders.

“Wildlife professionals recommend letting the moose find its way out of populated areas and into nearby forested areas.”
