CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A new list is out of foods that could help boost your body to fight pain and inflammation.

This list summarizes the research on several foods to fight inflammation. It's often referred to this as a "silent killer" in the blood, which is why diet may be an amazing weapon against it.

You likely know you can have inflammation following a painful knee or ankle injury, but you may not know that inflammation also plays a role in things much more silent including heart disease, arthritis and cancer.

This is why foods to fight inflammation are getting a lot of attention these days, and so is a recent report in environmental nutrition, which has a new list of foods you might want to include if you want to help fight it.

These foods all make the list because, many of them, you might have right in your own kitchen. But they also seem to have medicinal properties to reduce inflammation. They include:

  • Broccoli
  • Dark leafy greens, such as spinach or kale
  • Olive oil
  • Legumes, or beans and lentils
  • Salmon
  • Citrus fruits, such as grapefruit, oranges, lemons or limes
  • Nuts
  • Yogurt

The spices cucumin, or tumeric, also help fight inflammation. You eat all these foods and spices as part of a balanced diet, overall.
