A mastodon skeleton unearthed during a construction project in Michigan made its way to the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

The skeleton was found during a Kent County Drain Commission's project on the Clapp family property, according to the museum. The family donated the bones to the art museum.

While the majority of the bones are still going through the drying process, a selection of them was publicly displayed for the first time Thursday in an exhibit named "Ice Age: Michigan's Frozen Secrets," museum officials said.

The exhibition opens to the public Saturday.
