FRIANT, Calif. (KMPH) Updated Thursday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m.: The FresnoCounty Sheriff’s Office has determined a positive identification of a woman found on April 4, 2017.

She is a 33-year-old woman from the state of Virginia.

They are not releasing her name because she may have been a victim of a crime.

Detectives received a tip, which led them to a family member who lives out of the area.

They learned the woman flew to Fresno last week to see about possibly moving to this area.

Detectives continue to try and develop information about the woman and any contacts she made during her time in Fresno County.

Arrangements are being made to reunite her with family and friends.

On Tuesday, Fresno Police shared information on an unknown woman found about a mile south of Table Mountain near Millerton Road and Brighton Crest Drive. Investigators say she claims to be a mermaid and goes by the name Joanna.

Police say when they found her, her hair was wet, she was "mostly naked" and had been in the water. Investigators also noted that she had "webbed toes on both feet."

Detectives say she answers "I don’t know" to most questions.
