Maryland man catches 19.8-pound snakehead fish, just short of state record

A Queen Anne's County, Maryland man caught a snakehead fish that almost beat the current state record.

Maryland Department of Natural Resources Fishing & Boating shared an image ofJake Steppe's catch on social media.

The 19.8-pound snakehead fish by bow missed the state record by 1.2 pounds. It was 39 inches long.

Stepp, of Sudlersville, caught the fish on August 28 on the Upper Eastern Shore.

Snakehead fish are an invasive fish species that have become popular to catch with Maryland fishermen.
