BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada (TND) — A man living in British Columbia, Canada, told a Canadian radio news program that he discovered his physiotherapist made disparaging remarks about him in their personal notes.
Robert Munro, 37, says he suffered a back injury while delivering furniture in December. He made a claim to WorkSafeBC, the government agency that oversees labor safety in the province and is the sole workers’ compensation insurer and ended up placed in physiotherapy.
Munro told the CBC— the Canadian Broadcasting Company — that while his therapist was “really nice up front" but the comments the health worker made privately in internal documents said otherwise.
Upon reviewing his WorkSafeBC file, Munro says he discovered commentary by the therapist that referred to him as a "redneck hick to death" and a “uneducated massive redneck p****” that was “playing the system.
Munro reported the notes to his WorkSafe case manager, which led to an official complaint being filed with the Interior Health Department. That department confirmed the existence of the complaint to the CBC and says it is still under investigation.
He has since been able to remove the comments from his file and has been referred to a new physiotherapist at a different clinic to continue treatment and recovery.
At this point, Munro says, “a major apology would be nice” to receive from his original caretaker but does not have any other hopes beyond that in this point of the case.
