PORTLAND (WGME) – A Maine family and a FedEx driver are proof that one act of kindness goes a long way.

The Murphy family and driver Roger Ingram have established a lifelong friendship.

“They came and gave me a bottle of water, and the rest is history,” Ingram said.

Now every time they hear the FedEx truck making its way up their driveway, the family is elated. It’s no surprise that on Halloween, Brooke Murphy’s son Chase knew exactly who he wanted to be.

“He said 'Roger!' It wasn’t a FedEx driver, he had to be Roger,” Murphy said.

For Christmas, the Murphys came up with an idea to team up with their town and gift Ingram enough money to buy a plane ticket to visit his family back home in Jamaica.

The more than $700 ticket was paid in full.

“It was kind of emotional because I didn’t expect it,” Ingram said. “One act of kindness goes a long way. They’re my buddies now.”

This will be Ingram’s first time visiting his family in Jamaica in a few years.
