AMSTERDAM (TND) — Which is worse? Snakes on a plane or maggots?
An unsuspecting passenger on a Delta flight from Amsterdam had to deal with the latter.
The flight was bound for Detroit, Michigan when it was forced to turn back to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport after maggots reportedly fell onto a passenger from an overhead bin, WJBK reported.
Phillip Schotte was a passenger on the plane Tuesday and told WJBK "she was freaking out" and "was just trying to kind of fight off these maggots."
Schotte said it was discovered that a passenger had placed fish wrapped in newspaper into his bag.
"I don’t really know what was going through my mind. I was trying to process it – disgust is one thing of course," Schotte told WJBK.
According to the report, the man responsible for the disgusting stowaways stood up and claimed it.
Flight attendants took the package to the back of the plane and the pilot notified passengers of their return flight to Amsterdam.
Schotte said he didn't see if the man responsible was detained or fined.
Delta apologized to passengers in a statement to WJBK.
"Their trip was interrupted due to an improperly packed carry-on bag," Delta said. "The aircraft returned to the gate and passengers were placed on the next available flight. The aircraft was removed from service for cleaning."
