INDIANTOWN, Fla. (CBS12) — Video from a licensed python hunter saving an alligator from a python's crush is going viral.
Mike Kimmel of Martin County Trapping and Removals shared video of the frightening encounter on his Facebook page, and gave CBS12 permission to share his video with viewers.
While on a hunt in the Everglades Friday night, he said he saw the 4-foot alligator about to become a meal for the 10-foot python. Kimmel told CBS12 he handed his phone to another man to shoot video and stepped in to pull the alligator free from the python's grip.
Kimmel, of Indiantown, says he makes a living hunting pythons. He said this is the third time this year he's saved an alligator from a python.
The two other situations involved bigger gators and 13 to 14 foot pythons.
In this case, the alligator scampered away. Kimmel took the python to a field station to be measured. He then took the snake home for processing.
