DAYTON, Ohio (WRGT) -- The concert that never was.

The hoax on Facebook that went viral claimed Limp Bizkit was playing at the Sunoco on Wayne Avenue in Dayton.

Most people we spoke to knew Limp Bizkit wasn't actually going to play tonight, and while they had a little fun with the idea, some were disappointed when they heard Fred Durst would not make an appearance.

"Where you at? Fred Durst?" said Kyle Miller.

"We come all the way from West Milton to see Limp Bizkit. Live action," said Randy Ray.

Those fans made the trip from West Milton, just for disappointment.

"It's a little disappointing but he might be around here. He might be in one of them buildings watching us. So we really don't know that," said Ray.

Several people showed up tonight, just for the fun of it.

"I actually just came to get some gas and, you know I'm a fan of Limp Bizkt. Of course I knew it was a hoax by I'm glad to see the band get a lot of notoriety," said John Baxter.

Earlier in the night, people in the Oregon District were having fun with the idea that Limp Bizkit would actually make an appearance.

"I've just been a big fan of Limp Bizkit for a long time," said Dirk Roburn.

Wearing t-shirts advertising tonight's hoax concert.

"I'm hoping that the community can rally around Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit's music and just make Dayton a kind of cool spot that we could all come to and rock out," said Roburn.

But while some joked about tonight, some took a moment to be serious about what this hoax and how it went viral, truly means to Dayton.

"The fact that like people can pull together and exercise their creative power into creating something like this is incredible and if they could pull that together to do other good things then there's no stopping people," said Randy Cornett.

There is a police presence at the Sunoco and at one point in the night they asked people to leave.

The management at Sunoco shut it down for the night.

Most have now taken up shop in the sidewalk.
